Veterans Corner: A busy fall for service organizations

American Legion Post has a dinner set; DAR chapter to meet; Marine Corps League hosts birthday party; more

American Legion Post 62 will be having a dinner at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Post Home at 107 E. Prairie St., Sequim.

This dinner helps celebrate Veterans Day and if you have paid your American Legion dues for 2015 (Early Birds), you get to eat for free!

The menu is baked ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, salad, rolls and cake. Contact Commander Carl Bradshaw at 775-1477 if you are interested in attending.

DAR chapter to meet

The Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the North Olympic Skills Center in Port Angeles. The program will be presented by Linda Wiechman, a Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Member.

Join the Marine Corps League

The Mount Olympus Detachment of the Marine Corps League is inviting all service members, past and present, to join them in celebrating the 239th birthday of the United States Marine Corps at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Port Angeles Eagles No. 483, 2843 E. Myrtle St., Port Angeles.

The Port Angeles High School NJROTC will present the Colors. The menu is a choice of beef or chicken, potatoes, vegetables, rolls and birthday cake for $35 a person.  If you are interested in attending, contact Commandant Sid at sidjean6@gmail.com.

Officers luncheon on tap

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Military Officers Association invites all officers past and present to its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Red Lion CrabHouse in Port Angeles.

The menu is chicken marsala with soup, salad, mashed potatoes, hot vegetables and dessert for $20.

The speaker will be Maj. Gen. Richard C. Marr, USAF, Retired, a member of National MOAA’s board of directors. He will talk about legislation in progress that will affect the entitlements and benefits of active duty and retirees and their families.

Auxiliary needs your help

The American Legion Auxiliary is starting to gear up for the Christmas Store at the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, near Port Orchard.

This program provides residents free gifts for their family members.

They also get free cards, gift wrap and postage. This helps them feel a part of a giving family holiday in spite of their physical issues.
