Taking aim

You must use a .22-caliber, open-sight rifle. There will be rifles to use if you need one. Ammunition will be provided and there will be prizes.

Call Carl Bradshaw at 775-1477 if you have questions.

Helping out at Sarge’s

Sarge’s Place and the Outpost have been in the newspaper recently for receiving a new vehicle and refrigerator. I also want you to know that they have received furniture from the Richard and Candy Olmer estate and sheets and towels from a woman moving to assisted living.

They still are in need of twin beds and a dishwasher. The local chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is going to donate money for new dishes at Sarge’s Place. A Master Gardeners volunteer is assisting with the landscaping of the backyard at the Outpost. See? It does “take a village” to support our homeless and wounded warriors and their families. We are most appreciative of these gifts.

Call Cheri at 360-374-5252 if you have a bed to donate or money for a dishwasher. The website is www.sargesplace.com.

League seeking new members

The Mt. Olympus Detachment #897 of the Marine Corps League is looking for new members. You need your DD214 form showing an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps.

Meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Port Angeles Veterans Center, 261 S. Francis St.

Some of the programs the league is involved in are Toys For Tots, honor guards for military funerals and memorials, stand-downs for homeless veterans, scholarships for the PAHS NJROTC Cadets and participation in local parades.

This summer they are helping with the Sprint Boat races, Veterans Appreciation Day at The Home Depot and the Unity of Effort celebration at Fort Discovery in Gardiner.

The website is www.mtolympusmcl.org. If you have questions, call Commandant Sid Gerling at 417-3710 or e-mail him at sidjean6@gmail.com.

At the fair

Stop by the Voices For Veterans booth at the Clallam County Fair the weekend of Aug. 15-17. You can learn more about the homeless veterans stand-downs. The next one will be Oct. 2 at the fairgrounds. Volunteers and contributions always are welcome!
