Firefighters were kept busy over the weekend with a mobile home fire on Saturday and a fast-moving grass fire on Sunday.

No one was injured in the mobile home fire at 3401 Old Olympic Highway, which was reported by a passer-by late Saturday afternoon.

When Clallam County Fire District 3 firefighters arrived at the unoccupied house, its front porch and doorway were on fire with heavy smoke coming from the crawl space.

The fire’s progress was stopped within five minutes but the fire wasn’t completely out for more than an hour because of difficulty accessing the crawl space, said Assistant Chief Ben Andrews.

On Sunday afternoon, firefighters spent more than five hours putting out a wind-driven grass fire east of Jersey Lane in the vicinity of Brown Road and Port Williams Road.

Firefighters responded at 3:20 p.m. to find what had been a small fire beginning to spread rapidly, fed by wind and extremely dry grass.

No one was injured and no structures were threatened. Drifting smoke was seen as far away as Blyn.

An estimated two acres were burned. The cause is under investigation.
