William Smith

?William A. Smith, of Sequim, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was 98 years old.

Bill was born October 17, 1915 in Danvers, Minnesota, to Lloyd and Anna Marie Smith. He graduated from high school in Sisseton, South Dakota.

It was during the Great Depression era of the 1930s

when, as a teenager, Bill enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps constructing buildings, roads and bridges within Custer State Park.

In 1939 he enlisted in the Air Corp in Seattle, later serving as a Technical Sergeant in the 412th Army Air Force Base Unit. While serving in the military, he met and married Georgia M. Herold.

After discharge from the service, he earned a Master’s Degree in Economics and Business from the University of Washington. He was employed by the BF Goodrich Company, Boeing, and was involved in other entrepreneurial business adventures.

An active sportsman, he enjoyed golf, fishing, sailing and hiking. He was a member of three Masonic organizations, the Sequim Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Nile Shriners.

Bill and Georgia retired in 1955 and enjoyed many happy years touring North America and parts of Europe.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Lloyd Jr., Albert, Wayne; and sister, Eleanor. His beloved Georgia passed away in 2004, having shared 59 years of marriage.

He is survived by one sister, Donna, and numerous nephews and nieces and in-laws.

Bill had a quick wit, great sense of humor, outgoing personality and a zest for life. He cherished time with family and friends. He was grateful for all his blessings and shared his gratitude often, most especially in his final years of life.

Bill will be missed and remembered by many. There will be a private inurnment.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Special Needs at Sherwood Assisted Living for the professional and compassionate care he received during his stay there.
