Frank Catelli is a senior at the University of Washington who placed second overall in the men’s shot put at the UW Invitational in Seattle Jan. 29-30.

Catelli’s mark of 18.15 meters (59 feet, 6.75 inches) was second only to David Pless, a three-time Division II champ and Olympic Games hopeful, by a little less than three feet.

A 2012 Sequim High graduate and former Washington state 2A shot put champ, Catelli led UW in the shot put and the discus in his first year on the squad, earning a spot at NCAA West Prelims in both events. He threw a new career-best of 183-2 in the discus at the Pac-12 Championships to finish fourth.

Catelli was one of the top throwers in Division II for Western Washington University in 2013-2014, placing third at the 2014 NCAA D-II championships.
