From Yelm to Port Angeles to Seattle.

Peninsula College soccer scoring star Miguel Gonzalez is taking his talent to the next level and that comes with a Seattle Sounders uniform.

Gonzalez, 23, is a member of Sounders FC U-23 squad, a development squad for the Sounders’s professional FC first team.

A 5-foot 8-inch junior forward playing for the Seattle University Redhawks, Gonzalez starred at Peninsula College in Port Angeles as a freshman and sophomore. He set single-season and career scoring records for the Pirates, collecting 34 goals during the 2011 season and finishing his two-year career with 49 goals. He was named NWAACC West Division MVP in both 2010 and 2011.

In 2013 for the Redhawks, Gonzalez led the team with 15 goals — including four game-winners — and added five assists. He scored both of Seattle’s goals (including the game winner) against Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in November and was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Tournament team, conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference.

Sounders FC U-23, formerly the Tacoma Tide, compete in United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League, the top U-23 men’s league in North America that features 64 teams across the United States and Canada.
