Gymnastics: Klahhane team members cap season at Region 2 meet

Klahhane Gymnastics team members participated in season-culminating meets in late April and early May.

The Klahhane Silver Team participated in the Region 2 Xcel Gymnastics Championships at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds Event Center in Monroe April 29-May 1, with 727 athletes representing six states in Region 2.

This combined team and individual meet saw Klahhane’s Silver Team finish eight out of 16 teams with 113.15 points on April 29; SPORT Gymnastics from Wenatchee won the team competition with 115.85 points.

In individual competition each of Klahhane’s Silver Team girls achieved personal best all-around scores. Competing in the Child B age group, Sequim’s Harper Hilliker had the highest all-around for Klahhane with a 37.45 points, good for ninth place.. She earned a fifth place finish on the vault (9.65 points), and took eight place on bars (9.55).

Gracelyn Goss and Elyse Brown finished 11th and 12th in all-around scoring with marks of 37.35 and 37.20, respectively. Goss picked pick up a silver medal for her 9.65 score on uneven bars and was sixth on beam with 9.45. Brown was the first competitor of the meet on floor exercise and her score of 9.4 held up for a bronze. Brown picked up a second bronze medal for her 9.70 score on vault. Raynee Ciarlo rounded out the Child B group with an all-around score of 37.10 for 14th place, earning 10th place on the bars (9.50).

Sequim’s Daylen Williams, competing in the Senior B age group, finished in sixth on vault (9.45), 14th on bars (9.40) and an all-around score of 36.8 for 17th place.

On April 30, Mariah Traband and Sequim’s Taylor Bugge competed for individual honors in the Gold Division. The top 240 girls in Region 2 qualified by allocation into this competition. Traband competed in the Youth A age group, finishing with 9.3 points on vault for the fifth place medal, 11th on floor exercise (9.32) and 36.70 for 15th place all-around. Competing in the Senior B age group, Bugge earned a bronze medal on beam (9.45 points), ninth on vault score (9.3) and 13th place in all-around (36.50).

On May 1, Klahhane’s Scarlett Sullivan competed in the Platinum Division competition. Sullivan tallied 35.675 points for 15th in all-around scoring, placing 10th on the vault (9.25).

DeWolfs compete

Klahhane’s Liam DeWolf competed in the Men’s Development Program Western Championships in Reno, Nev., on April 30 — a meet featuring the top gymnasts in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9. Competing in the Level 8- Youth B age group, he earned a silver medal on vault (12.0) and eighth on pommel horse (12.0), finishing 13th in all-around with 66.80 points. Connor DeWolf was scheduled to compete in the Level 9 but had to withdraw because of an illness, coaches said.
