They may be rookies, but the Peninsula Pirate women’s team is battling for the postseason like veterans.
Rebounding from a tough loss earlier in the week to Green River, the Pirates got a score late in the game from Jackie Rodgers, vaulting P.C. back into third place in the competitive NWAACC West division.
With just five minutes left, P.C.’s Felicia Collins was fouled in the penalty box, setting up Rodgers’ penalty kick game-winner.
Krystal Daniels recorded her first shutout of the season and first of her collegiate career.
Rodgers, a freshman from Mount Rainier High School, now has three goals on the season, one behind Jessica Farrell.
Three days earlier, Green River made Peninsula’s women quite blue after squeaking out a 1-0 win in Auburn.
Kelsey Boyd scored on an Alex White assist in the 19th minute and Gator keeper Jennsyn Chaney kept the Green River net clean for the shutout.
Peninsula hosts Highline on Oct. 27 and Olympic on Oct. 30.
