That rumbling is back.
No, not the booming sounds that roll through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The second Rumble in the Rainforest comes to Peninsula College on April 25, bringing with it a full day of exhibition soccer of some of the top teams in the Pacific Northwest.
The event includes a car a show hosted by the Peninsula College Auto Shop and Wilder Auto, a “Kids’ Zone” bouncy house sponsored by Storm King Soccer and food and beverages provided by Next Door Gastro Pub and Pirate Cove Café.
And there’s soccer, too, with five games scheduled (see box, page B-6). The day kicks off with a 10 a.m. game between the Peninsula College Pirate men against the Olympic Force, an Evergreen Premiere League squad. Cost is $10 for adults 18 and older, $5 for seniors, active military personnel and youths of ages 7-17 and it’s free for 6 and younger. A $30 ticket is available for families. Monies raised go to the Peninsula College Athletic Program, supporting the 60 athletic scholarships it distributes annually.
About the teams
Peninsula College’s men’s and women’s teams were two-time defending Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges champions heading into their 2014 seasons. They play their regular season in the fall and are allowed a short exhibition season each spring. The Pirate women ranked seventh in the nation last year and men ranked 19th. P.C. boasts the first NWAC programs to both win back-to-back championships.
In all, the men have three college championships and the women have two.
The Kitsap Pumas are an American professional soccer team based in Bremerton. Founded in 2008, the team plays in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference.
Saint Martins teams participate in the NCAA’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference at the Division II level. In 2009, the men’s team seized the first team title in any sport for Saint Martin’s University, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Olympic Force is the newest addition to the Evergreen Premiere League, where a number of players have competed at the collegiate level and professional level and several have played in U.S. professional indoor soccer leagues.
