Sequim High’s Elise Beuke is on her way to row for the University of Washington this fall and she’s getting plenty of practice this spring.

Beuke, of the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Club, topped a field of 25 competitors in the Women’s Junior 1x division at the 21st annual Covered Bridge Regatta near Eugene, Ore., on April 18.

She completed the course in 8 minutes, 47.7 seconds, to edge Jenna Hardman of the Seattle Rowing Club by two seconds.

Beuke also teamed with Aubree Officer of Port Angeles to win the regatta’s Women’s Junior 2x division in 8:50.4, edging a squad from Oregon Rowing Unlimited by about 4.5 seconds.

The Covered Bridge Regatta attracted 516 entries from 20 cities in California, Oregon and Washington, with rowers from 26 rowing clubs.

Next up for the pair is the U.S. Rowing Northwest Regional Championships, set for May 15-17 on Vancouver Lake (Vancouver, Wash.).
