Boating safety class offered

The Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 47, Port Townsend, is having an “About Boating Safety” class from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Point Wilson Lighthouse in Fort Worden State Park. The class costs $15 which includes a book for the class and to keep as future reference. This class will give all attending the certification to get the Washington  boating card. Pickleball tourney set

The Sequim Picklers will have a women’s doubles tournament from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the indoor courts of the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim. Fees are $10 to be paid at the gym on game day. Register at tbuchanan@wavecable.com or 477-4179 by April 24.

Local race team takes seventh in Yakima

Jon VanGesen, 45, a Port Orchard resident racing for the Port Angeles-based Righteous Racing 17 team, placed seventh in the 49th Annual Apple Cup at Yakima Speedway, held April 11-12.

Port Scandalous to skate on Saturday

 

Port Scandalous Roller Derby will have a match from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim. The cost is $10 for advance tickets; $12 at the door. Children under 6 are free. Tickets are available at Drake’s U-Bake Pizza & Subs, the

Co-op tops Athlete’s Choice

Sequim Co-Op topped Port Angeles Athlete’s Choice on April 13 in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth play. The Co-Op batsmen delivered 12 hits. Gavin Velarde had an inside-the-park home run while Johnnie Young and Ryan Clark both delivered doubles. Jonathon Serrano delivered three strong innings on the mound and was credited with the win. Co-Op second baseman Nathan Miller recorded all three outs in the top of the third inning.

Athlete’s Choice’s Tristan Dotson had a single in the second inning while Brody Merritt delivered a towering double over the center fielder’s head in the fourth. Merritt then advanced and scored their sole run.

Sign up for summer hoops camp

Advantage Basketball hosts a basketball camp this summer. The organization hosts a three- or five-day camp (July 20-22 or July 20-24) at the Sequim High School gymnasium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Cost is $195 for the three-day camp and $265 for the five-day camp; save $30 by registering by June 20.

The camps are open to boys and girls ages 6-18. All levels and skill abilities are welcome. Camps are run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Skills taught include ball-handling and shooting, court awareness, defense and more.
