Sequim’s equestrian squad got its final tune-up for the season finals with their third district meet, held May 20-23 in Elma. In the process, they brought home plenty of hardware.
The team scored four district gold medals, a silver, three bronzes and the district inspirational award (to Keri Tucker) for their efforts this season.
Tucker earned gold in steer daubing and working rancher while teammate Libby Swanberg earned a gold medal in breakaway roping.
Tucker and Swanberg teamed up with Susannah Sharp for gold in drill fours; that same trio earned a bronze in cattle sorting.
Swanberg picked up a silver medal in jumping and a bronze in steer daubing. Rainey Bronsink took third (bronze) in barrels.
Earning first alternate district awards to state were Bronsink in individual flags and keyhole, Swanberg in figure eight, Bronsink and Tucker in birangle, Sharp and Tucker in pairs, and the quartet of Bronsink, Sharp, Swanberg and Tucker in versatility.
The state meet is set for June 17-20 in Moses Lake.
