Local Volkssport club takes to downtown
Join the Olympic Peninsula Explorers Volkssport Club for its Port Angeles historical town walk on Saturday, July 10. The 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) walk is primarily on city streets and sidewalks passing a variety of historical buildings and through the outdoor art display.
There is also a shorter option: a six-kilometer (3.5-mile) path that stays near the waterfront.
Register inside the lobby at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., by 9 a.m. There is a general meeting and lunch afterwards at the Café Garden, 1506 E. First St.

SkyRidge hosts lavender golf tourney
The fifth-annual Lavender Festival Golf Tournament is Saturday, July 17, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.
The two-person scramble-format event kicks off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Cost is $45 per player; carts are $15 each. An extra $10 honey pot is available. Those with a Lavender Festival button get $2 off. Part of the tourney funds go to aid disabled veterans of foreign wars.

Morrow edges Sweet for AP Shootout crown
John Morrow of Camano Island sank a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to shoot a one-under-par 71, edging out Sunland head pro Tyler Sweet by a shot to win the second annual AP’s Shootout at SkyRidge Golf Course on June 27.
Some of the best golfers on the peninsula took part in the shootout. Any amateur or pro with a single-digit handicap from the area was invited to compete for a winner-take-all cash prize. The course was set up at its longest yardage with two flags on each green. Pin placements were arranged to reflect the talent of the players on the course.
It was Morrow’s first time to play the course.
Mike Dupuis of Peninsula Golf Club came in with a 73 for third place.
PTC awards scholarships
Peninsula Tennis Club awarded $1,400 in scholarships to Sequim and Port Angeles players.
Scholarships were awarded to Sequim players Kyla Hall and Reed Gunstone and Port Angeles players Samantha Manwell and Grace Van Rossen.
Hastings, Chrisman take ‘Ultimate’ titles
Doug Hastings took the men’s crown while Karen Chrisman took the women’s title at the fifth Sequim Ultimate Doubles Tennis Tournament on June 12.
Two-dozen players battled in six pro set-style matches over five hours to complete initial play. Hastings and Chrisman joined Mark Textor and Brenda Langstrom in the final match after the quartet earned the most number of games won.
