BMX returns, Sunland selects officers and Pirate women win Rumble

BMX is back

It’s time for outdoor BMX once again. Port Angeles BMX track started the season with its first Thursday practice and rider clinic on April 21. There will be a free clinic from 3:30-4 p.m. Thursday, April 28. Clinics last about one hour. The first races of the season are May 1, with sign-ups from noon-1 p.m. and racing to follow.

The focus for this season, organizer Geri Thompson says, is having more clinics to help everyone understand its a family inclusive sport. One-day free trials are available; bring a bike and helmet to get started. Email pabmxtrack@gmail.com for more information.

Sunland golf club selects officers

The Sunland Women’s Golf Association has selected the following officers for the 2016 season: captain, Cheryl Coulter; treasurer, Ruth Lowe; secretary, Geri O’Claray; assistant captain, Eileen Larsen; Handicap, Mary Kubas-Meyer; Team, Carol Goodman; Sunshine, Pennie Dickin; and New Members, Cecil Black. The club also announced a new tournament, similar to the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup, to be held June 30, July 7 and July 8. Call 683-6800 for more information.

Pirate women get wins at Rumble

Peninsula College’s women got a pair of victories while the PC men went 0-1-1 at the fourth Rumble in the Rainforest soccer exhibition on April 23 at Sigmar Field.

PC’s women opened with a 1-0 win against Saint Martin’s University, the lone score from Ellie Small in the 10th minute. PC added a win against the Olympic Force, with goals by Sequim grad Leslie Cisneros (13th minute), Small (23rd) and Hoku Afong (55th).

Peninsula College’s men fell to Saint Martin’s in their opener, with Kyle Witzel scoring both goals. PC fell behind in their second game against the Olympic Force but got the equalizer from Port Angeles forward Tim Schneider at 53 minutes to earn a 1-1 draw.
