Still undefeated, the Sequim High fastpitch squad is making this look easy.

At the May 14 sub-district tournament in Enumclaw, the Wolves clobbered White River and Franklin Pierce, the top two teams from the South Puget Sound League, on their way to locking up the top seed heading into next weekend’s West Central District Tournament.

In the opener, Sequim (21-0) erupted for eight runs in the first three innings, then held on for a 9-4 victory against White River’s Hornets. Maddy Zbaraschuk ripped two doubles and a single, knocking in two runs. Amariah Clift and Cindy Miller each had two RBIs while Lea Hopson doubled twice, knocking around White River starter Sara Steinmetz.

Demiree Briones worked all seven innings, striking out six and giving up just two earned runs on four hits. Sammy Mitchell had two hits and two RBIs for White River.

Sequim met Franklin Pierce in the sub-district final, after the Cardinals dispatched Seamount League champ Kennedy earlier that day.

The Wolves scored once in the third and twice in the fourth before exploding for a six-spot in the sixth inning for a 9-0 victory.

Briones shut down the Cardinals, allowing just four hits while striking out four.

Maddy Zbaraschuk paced the offense once again with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, knocking in two runs and scoring twice. Sister Rylleigh was 2-for-4 with a triple while Briones and Columbia Haupt added two hits each.

With the wins, Sequim gets a bye in the district tournament’s first round. The Wolves play the winner of the eighth/ninth seed game.

Port Angeles takes the fifth seed after two big wins at the sub-district tourney, easily topping Sumner and Interlake.

The top six teams from districts advance to the class 2A state tournament, held at Carlon Park in Selah on May 27-28.
