Ever wonder what the caterpillars, worms and maggots in your garden will grow up to be? Laurel Moulton, Clallam County’s Master Gardener Program Coordinator, will talk about the juvenile forms of some common insects in the garden at the next Green Thumbs Garden Series event, set for noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, on Zoom.

Join Moulton’s presentation, “Worms and Caterpillars: Identifying Juvenile Butterflies, Moths and Flies in your Garden,” by going to extension.wsu.edu/ clallam and selecting the Master Gardener Zoom presentation link. Or, join by calling 253-215-8782 (meeting ID 964 9255 8020, passcode 787902).

Her presentation will cover common butterfly and moth larvae, as well as fly larvae and a few others that have a worm-like appearance when they are young.

Moulton has been a Master Gardener since 2006 and received her master’s degree in horticulture with a minor in entomology from Oregon State University in 2011. She has been fascinated by insects her whole life and enjoys teaching others about the metamorphosis of common insects in the garden.

Sponsored by WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners, the Green Thumbs Garden Tips education series seeks to provide home gardeners with education on research-based sustainable garden practices in Clallam County.

The series is offered via streaming presentations from noon-1 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday each month through October (in November, December and January, one program is offered).
