Wrestling: Four Wolves place at ‘Stocking Stuffer’ tourney

Four Sequim High girls earned top-four finishes at the inaugural 13-team Grizzly Stocking Stuffer girls wrestling tournament Dec. 21 in Hoquiam.

Kiara Pierson, ranked No. 6 in the 125-pound weight division by washingtonwrestlingreport.com, took top honors in that same division in Hoquiam, defeating Hoquiam’s Elyse Goulet 11-4 in the finals.

Sequim’s Alma Mendoza, ranked No. 8 in the state, fell in the Grizzly Stocking Stuffer 155-pound finals by pin to Hoquiam’s Jenna Doll, ranked No. 6 in the state.

Wolf Sarah Ulmer took third place at 170 pounds while Megan Puksta placed fourth at 115 pounds.

Aberdeen took top honors at the tournament with 128.5 team points. Centralia was second (108 points) and Hoquiam was third.

Sequim wrestlers are back in action at the North Mason Classic on Dec. 28 in Belfair.

The Wolves (1-1) jump back into Olympic League competition Jan. 4 at Klahowya before hosting Bremerton on Jan. 5.
