Finalists for the city’s public works director position could be presented to the city April 2 after Waldron & Co. finishes interviewing the seven semifinalists this week.

Waldron & Co. received 30 applications for the position that has been vacant since Jim Bay retired in April 2008. Waldron provided resumes, letters of interest and responses to a set of standard questions to select city managers expected to work most closely with the new person.

They narrowed the field of 18 to seven semifinalists.

In November, the council hired Waldron and Co., an executive search firm in Seattle, to search for both a city manager and a public works director.
