Middle-schoolers celebrate being good in a gross way

Some brave students took center stage at Sequim Middle School to do some outrageous things. Those with no missing assignments, no discipline referrals and no “excessive think time” got to watch or participate in the school’s first Fear Factor assembly.

Lucky, and some not-so-lucky, students ate crickets, a concoction of Spam, sardines and sauerkraut and participated in dizzy and messy relay races.

Scott Harker, assistant principal, thought the assembly went well.

“We did a good job of holding their attention for an hour,” he said.

For students to participate, a parent’s or guardian’s signature was required.
