The Clallam County Opportunity Fund board voted unanimously to approve the Port of Port Angeles’ $85,000 grant application for Peninsula Plywood building improvements.

Port staff submitted the application to support projects in the buildings currently leased to Peninsula Plywood, LLC, on the Port Angeles waterfront.

The Clallam County board of commissioners was expected to ratify the recommendation Tuesday, Nov. 24. Building improvements at Pen Ply will commence immediately with Pen Ply staff and the port’s Public Works Department.

Per their lease with the port, Pen Ply is tasked with employing 60 full-time employees during its first 90 days. The mill eventually will employ approximately 172 workers.
