Robert Henson and Brandon Andrus decided to take the pizza challenge at the Islander Pizza & Pasta Shack, but in the end were defeated by the 12-lb.-plus black olive and pepperoni "Sasquatch."

The two dropped by the Sequim landmark Thursday afternoon to take up the challenge thrown down by Islander co-owner Ken Cran:  anyone who can complete one of his 30-inch diameter monsters in 60 minutes pays nothing.

"They got about halfway through in 30 minutes," Cran said, "then took a break."  After returning to the table they downed "a couple more pieces," then called it quits.

The boys acknowledged before digging in that losing the challenge and ponying up the $60 purchase price wouldn’t be the worst fate.  "We can take home whatever we don’t finish."

"You can eat on that for a month," Cran said.
