PUD goes viral

On Feb. 1, Clallam County PUD No. 1 launched its Clallam PUD-TV program on YouTube.

“We are taking this challenge of communicating in the age of television, video and the Internet head on,” said Michael Howe, executive communications coordinator.

The new communication tool stems partly from 2009 PUD customer satisfaction survey results that indicated many PUD customers use the Internet frequently. One video is available for viewing — “Conservation Conversations,” the first segment of a monthly series.

Future video topics may include additional conservation programs, special presentations, safety awareness and educational concepts.

PUD Videos, aka PUD-TV, may be embedded in the PUD website in the future. Users click on the “YouTube” button at www.clallampud.net.

The videos are not meant to supplant traditional means of news releases, utility district officials said. Those news-release formats include newspaper advertisements and notices, radio programs and advertisements, the monthly HotLine newsletter and messages on bills and flyers.

“Our goal is to have effective and broad-reaching communication with our customers, so we will continue to reach out using a number of methods,” Howe said.
