Soroptimist International of Sequim was selected to receive a $2,500 grant from the Sound Community Foundation. The funds are earmarked for its medical loan closet. Committee member Amanda Beitzel wrote the grant request that led to this award.
The medical loan equipment/supplies are used by about 1,000 individuals each year. The durable medical equipment is stored at The Sequim Stow Places. Equipment can be borrowed by residents in the Sequim School District for a 90-day period. Items available are wheelchairs, deluxe cruisers, knee scooters, canes, crutches, etc. To request medical items, call 360-504-0231 and leave a message.
The $2,500 will help to purchase items that are in high demand. Some equipment needs to be replaced but it will be recycled. Soroptimist International of Sequim has a partnership with Gateway Medical Alliance, a nonprofit group that sends equipment to Morocco to be used by those in need there.
