Kiwanis Club of Sequim named Tom’s Plaza Jewelers, 511 E. Washington St., Sequim, as June’s business of the month at the July 1 meeting.
Marti McKeown, manager/jeweler, accepted the award.
Tom Cole opened his jewelry business in 1979.
Prior to that, his father owned Joseph’s Jewelers in Sequim, but he was not part of that business.
In 1996 the business moved to a Bell Street location, then next to Safeway.
Cole is partially retired, only taking special orders for custom designs.
Bernards has had an interest in jewelry design and goldsmithing since he was about 12.
Gammill’s association with the business includes its sponsorship when she was a member of the Irrigation Festival royalty.
McKeown started with the business seven years ago and now is store manager.
Community service has included sponsoring contestants for the Irrigation Festival royalty, participating with the Trey Green Guild for the Seattle Children’s Hospital, Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County and membership in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce.
They also have donated to the Sequim Boys & Girls Club.
When necessary, they will deliver completed pieces for clients unable to come to the store. Call 683-1418.
