Woman struck while walking dog

A woman was struck by a car while walking her dog in the dark on Blyn Road and U.S. Highway 101 on Friday night Sept. 30.

Sine L. Tveit, 46, of Sequim, was hit by a Volkswagen van driven by Thomas Stammer, 68, of Port Townsend, at 9:22 p.m., according to a Washington State Patrol collision memo.

Stammer was not injured but Tveit was transported to Olympic Memorial Hospital then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. She was listed in satisfactory condition Monday morning.

Peter Loeb, public information officer for Clallam County Fire District 3, said spinal precautions including a cervical collar and backboard were used as emergency responders evaluated Tveit’s injuries.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 101 was blocked for nearly three hours, alternating through the westbound lane, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Trooper Krista Hedstrom said the cause of the collision is under investigation but it appears alcohol was a factor on the pedestrian’s part.
