The League of Women Voters of Clallam County will celebrate Women’s History Month with a social dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

Following the dinner, Sequim Middle School student Hillary Smith will present her award-winning History Day paper entitled "Taking On The Courts … and The Men!" about Belva Ann Lockwood.

Lockwood, a Washington, D.C. lawyer, was the first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court bar. Smith’s paper won the

Women’s History Award of Washington state and placed third at the national competition in Washington, D.C. It caught the attention of former President Bill Clinton, who wrote her a personal note of congratulations and appreciation for her timely paper.

There also will be a tribute to Clara Carlson, a longtime League member who died in January at the age of 102.

A suggested donation of $7 for the dinner will be collected at the door. For more information, call Kathy Langhoff, 681-3757.
