Lake Aldwell Home Razed by Fire

Clallam County Fire District 2 Firefighters successfully protected two homes next to a fully involved log cabin located 64 Lake Aldwell Road in Port Angeles early this morning, Sept. 10.
The alarm came in at 1:29 a.m. from Peninsula Communications alerting Fire District 2 of the fire. The first arriving command vehicle reported the one story wood frame structure to be fully involved in fire with exposed to radiant heat and flames threatening nearby homes. A nearby power pole was singed and trees near the home were lost due to the extreme radiant heat.
No one was in the unoccupied rental at the time of the fire and no one was reported to be injured in the blaze. The home is owned by Mrs. Susie Gustafson who lives nearby. According to reports provided to firefighters the cabin had been occupied as a rental until September 9th at which time to occupant relocated to California.
Fire District 2 responded with two engines, two water tenders, and two command vehicles staffed with a total of 16 firefighters who remained on the fire scene until 6 a.m. Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
The Fire District was assisted by a Clallam County Sheriff’s Patrol deputy and Clallam County PUD who responded with two linemen and a pole truck to de-energize power to the structure.
