Police warn of phone scam

Sequim Police Department reports a phone scam circulating on Wednesday, Jan. 25, trying to gain personal information such as credit and debit account information from residents.

Both land lines and cell phones are receiving calls.

Officer Maris Turner said the automated phone call tells the residents that their accounts may have been used fraudulently and instructs them to press “one” to proceed.

“We want to remind people to hang up and check their accounts through their bank in a way that they are familiar with,” Turner said.  

She added that the recent scam is similar to calls residents countywide received in 2010.  

One man also told the Gazette he received an automated call from a service called Denali Living asking for credit information.

He tried calling the number back but could not get through.
