United Way Day of Caring is Saturday

United Way of Clallam County has been arranging community volunteer opportunities for many years as part of the beginning of the United Way annual fund drive. This year, all volunteer opportunities will be on Saturday, Sept. 14.

United Way is partnering with the City of Sequim through the National Day of Service program associated with honoring those who lost their lives and worked to save lives after 9/11. Kick- off ceremonies for the day in Sequim will be at 8 a.m. at Gerhardt Park, 1610 S. Third Ave.

Sequim volunteers are invited to join in the activities.

There are more than 13 projects currently scheduled throughout the county. If you, your work group or your family would like to volunteer, call United Way at 457-3011 or just come to the particular projects in the morning on Sept. 14.

Times for projects are from 9 a.m-1 p.m. or until done.

Sequim projects:

City of Sequim Parks — Gerhardt Park yard care/repairs

Sequim Boys & Girls Club — painting, repairs and yard work

 

Port Angeles Projects:

Estuary Park — general landscaping/cleanup

Boys & Girls Club — painting and interior maintenance

First Step Family Support Center — cleaning windows, toys, yard

VCS/Paint the Town house — paint house at 2436 E. Ryan Drive

Healthy Families Office — paint, shampoo carpets, clean toys

Captain Joseph House — interior demolition, etc.

St. Andrew’s Place — build exterior walkway access

Mosaic Holy Trinity Lutheran Church — polishing the pews in thanks for the use of office/classroom space

 

For the drive

This effort launches the United Way 2013-2014 annual fund drive, which runs from September through December.

This year’s goal is to raise $1 million Last year, United Way raised $900,960 which has been distributed to local nonprofits throughout the year.
