Milestone: Photographer’s vision of lavender beauty gets billboard treatment

Photographer Gary Hamburgh captured Sequim lavender farm Jardin du Soleil during a sunrise last year in early July. The photograph has since been installed on a billboard welcoming those traveling eastbound toward Sequim.
Although Hamburgh lives in Issaquah, he visits Sequim and the greater Olympic Peninsula often because of the plentiful photo opportunities.
“I scout around a lot before taking a picture,” Hamburgh said.
Not only does Hamburgh take time to integrate himself into an area before photographing, he seeks elements, such as clouds, and prefers to shoot during times of “sweet light,” which occur slightly before and after both sunrise and sunset.
