The first span of the nearly 750-foot steel bridge across the Dungeness River at Railroad Bridge Park was placed Wednesday, Nov. 4. The new bridge under way connects with the historic 150-foot bridge, but replaces the trestle that was damaged during February flooding.

Using modern building materials and techniques, the bridge is designed to be more conducive to the natural processes of the river and serve pedestrians’ needs.

The bridge and corresponding portion of the Olympic Discovery Trail are anticipated to open by the end of December, weather permitting.

Nordland Construction NW is the contractor for construction of the replacement trestle using the design and engineering done by Otak.
