Need more information about student federal aid? Attend College Bowl Washington, set for 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Peninsula College’s main campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Most students rely on financial aid to make attending college a reality. Local educators encourage college-bound students to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). College Bowl Washington offers on-site help with the FAFSA, a form required for most scholarships, grants and loans.

Things you’ll need to fill out the FAFSA:

• Social Security card/number or alien registration card (you will not be able to start the FAFSA process without one of these)

• Driver’s license or identification card

• Income information (bank statements, W-2 or pay stub, past tax return)

• A parent/guardian for those younger than 24 (All students older than 24 are considered independent; the FAFSA helps determine if you are considered dependent or independent if you are younger than 24 and only dependents need to file parent information.)

• Parents’ financial information (bank statements, W-2 or pay stub, last year’s tax return)

• Parents’ Social Security number

• Additional financial information (child support statements, TANF or welfare information; real estate, stock or bonds investments; family business or farm information)

Only U.S. citizens or legal residents may submit a FAFSA; however, one’s parents do not need to be citizens or legal residents.
