Learn about on-board medical emergencies

Published 3:29 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2016

Robert Stem, safety officer for the North Olympic Sail and Power Squadron, will be presenting “Medical Emergencies On-Board” at the monthly Boating Skills Clinic at 10 a.m. April 13 at the Gathering Place at Sunland Golf Course and Country Club, 135 Fairway Drive, Sequim.

When on the water, you may not have the luxury to get to an emergency room immediately or be able to contact 9-1-1 for assistance. You could be on your own to attend to the situation until help has arrived or you get to a destination for help. Knowing some of the basics in treating several likely medical emergencies will help.

Stem will cover bleeding, burns, broken bones, strokes, heart attacks, helicopter evacuation and first aid courses and certification. If you boat or paddle, this is an important clinic for you. It is free and open to the public. For more information, go to www.northolympicboaters.com or contact the Education Officer at education.nosps@gmail.com.
