Flamingos ready to flock

The Flocking Flamingoes, Sequim High School’s graduation fundraiser, will preview on Washington Street from 5-8 p.m. April 1 during BirdFest/BirdQuest.

Actual Flocking Flamingo fundraising days will be April 11-May 4.

Clallam Transit adds runs on commuter route

Clallam Transit System implemented a major change on March 21 to help commuter services between Sequim and Port Angeles.

The service schedule on Route 30 (U.S. Highway 101 commuter) has been expanded to include an additional 11:30 a.m. trip leaving the Port Angeles Gateway Transit Center on weekdays. This route has had 30-minute service except between the hours of 9 a.m.-noon, when the route only has had hourly service.

Ridership has been historically higher than average on the 11 a.m. and noon trips. Transit staff anticipates reduced crowding on the other trips and improved on-time performance. Cost of this additional service — $31,800 — was included in the 2016 budget.

Thrift shop open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 2. Featured this Saturday will be prom dresses for those high school dances. Also included will be furniture, kitchen accessories, fine handbags and jewelry, spring fashions for the whole family and much more.

The thrift shop is totally manned with volunteers and really needs more new volunteers, so if you’re interested, call 683-7044 for information.

Vendors sought for IrrFest

The 2016 Sequim Irrigation Festival is accepting applications for vendors for the Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair, held Saturday-Sunday, May 7-8.

Additionally, vendors may set up early on Friday and participate in the First Friday Art Walk, which will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 6. The Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair is held on the Civic Plaza in Sequim.

Club’s topic is peonies

The Sequim Prairie Garden Club presents a presentation by and discussion with Amy Hall, owner of the first and only peony farm on the Olympic Peninsula, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 4, at the Pioneer Memorial Park clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St. Learn why Sequim is the perfect place to grow peonies as well as how to plant and care for them. Social time begins at 10 a.m. Bring a sack lunch. All are welcome.

SMUG meeting on tap

The Strait Mac Users Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Back by popular demand, Jim Karr will further demonstrate the many powerful yet simple features in Apple’s program Keynote.

He will show how he uses Keynote to create and deliver professional lectures around the world.

Committee considering Title II project proposals

The Olympic Peninsula Resource Advisory Committee will meet from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the the Red Cedar Room of the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Center, 1033 Old Blyn Highway, in Blyn.

The purpose of this meeting is to review 2015 Title II project proposals and provide acting forest supervisor Larry Sandoval, the designated federal official, with a list of recommended projects to be funded.

A total of 22 Title II project proposals were submitted in 2015 and each will be given consideration for funding. The RAC meeting is open to the public.

‘Be your own superhero’

For the next Stadium Generale in the Little Theater at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, April 7, Peninsula College instructor Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond will give a multimedia presentation, “The Superhero’s Journey — Transformative Endeavors and Superpowers.”

Brock-Richmond hopes to help audience members discover their destiny as superheroes by revealing and utilizing their superpowers such as hidden talents that might help guide and shape your career path or life journey. The focus will be on learning how to communicate your unique, authentic motivation, zeal and mission to be productive and successful.

‘Feline Fiesta’ planned

Peninsula Friends Of Animals invites you to join its volunteers at the “Feline Fiesta” Luncheon and Auction with entertainment by the Hot Apple Pie quartet from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at The Cedars at Dungeness banquet room, 1965 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

Tickets are $35 — purchase them at PFOA or Heather Creek, 122 W. Washington St., Sequim.

Proceeds benefit the PFOA rescue animals.

Welcome home to vets

There will be a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony, starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 S. Francis St., Port Angeles.

The event begins with a coffee/cookie social, followed by a ceremony beginning at 1 p.m. Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day is recognized annually on March 30 in Washington  after the efforts of local Vietnam veteran Norman Goodin.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
