Master Gardeners plan plant sale for May 7-8

A broad selection of plants well-suited for growing on the Olympic Peninsula will be on sale at the WSU Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim, on May 7-8.

The sale is set for 9 a.m.-noon Saturday; remaining items will be on sale for half price while they last beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Plant sale chairman Betsy Burlingame said that the sale will include local natives such as red osier dogwood, flowering red current, ocean spray, nine bark, serviceberry, vine maple and sword ferns.

Perennials include iris, red crocosmia, peonies, spirea varieties, thrift, hydrangea, hellebore and more.

Ground covers, ornamental grasses, rhubarb, chives, tomato and other herb and vegetable starts also will be available.

Burlingame said that these plants have been cultivated locally and Master Gardeners have pruned and potted the plants.

Each plant has been labeled with its name, a description of the plant and its cultivation requirements.

She also said there is a large collection of used garden art, tools, books and other items for sale.

Master Gardeners will be on hand at the sale to help gardeners select plants for the growing conditions of their property and to answer questions.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to further education and demonstration garden programs in Clallam County.
