Wounded veterans get prime parking

A parking space reserved for combat-wounded veterans, who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal, has become a reality at Peninsula College. The Associated Student Council recently voted to allow the PC Veterans Navigator and the Vet Club to use the former ASC Student of the Month space for this project. Peninsula College is the first college in Washington to have a dedicated space for combat-wounded vets.

“This space is important for many reasons, the most basic being to say ‘Thank you,’” said PC Veteran Navigator Jerrod Brown. “It allows those veterans who were wounded in combat that may not have an ADA handicap placard to park at little closer to the main building.”

Isaac Chavez (center), who served in the U.S. Army from 2008-2013 and was wounded in Afghanistan, is the first student veteran to use the combat-wounded veteran parking space at Peninsula College. Here he is pictured with Brown, left, and PC President Dr. Luke Robins.

To be eligible for the space, student veterans can bring in a DD-214 (Member 4 copy) to Brown for verification of a Purple Heart award.
