Peninsula College jazz ensemble performs

The Peninsula College Vocal Jazz Ensemble will hold two concerts this summer that are free and open to the public.

The Peninsula College Student Solo Showcase will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, in Maier Performance Hall.

On Thursday, Aug. 18, renowned jazz singer Greta Matassa will perform with the PC Solo Showcase winners at 7 p.m. at Olympic Cellars Winery.

Admission is free, but donations are requested.

Summer Olympics are here at libraries

Children, families and groups are invited to participate in the first Summer Lawn Olympics at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

This fun, free event for children ages 3-12 is part of the ongoing summer reading program at the North Olympic Library System and will feature outdoor games led by all-star teen volunteers.

Pool party for summer readers

The North Olympic Library System will host an end-of-summer pool party for all Summer Reading Program participants and their parents or caregivers from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at William Shore Memorial Pool, 225 E. Fifth St. in Port Angeles.

This free event is an opportunity for young people to come together and celebrate their summer reading achievements. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Ellard at grange

Buck Ellard will be performing from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. Cost is $10 per person or $15 a couple.

Food will be provided.

Veterans invited to share stories

The North Olympic Library System invites all veterans this August and September to share their military stories.

“Listen Up! Stories from the Northwest Corner” is a new, semiannual library program focused on collecting and archiving oral histories from Clallam County residents.

Interviews will take place by appointment only the week of Aug. 22 and Sept. 12.

Sign up for karaoke contest

The Fifth Annual Karaoke Idol contest will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, as part of the City of Sequim’s Music in the Park program.

If you are interested in being a contestant, visit the City’s website, www. sequimwa.gov, or contact the City Clerk’s office at 152 W. Cedar St., for an application and/or information.

Song selections are available at www.singsnap.com and www.karafun.com.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants.

Entertainment is provided each Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. through Aug. 30. The final concert features Farmstrong.

PA Symphony tickets for dinner now on sale

Tickets are on sale now for the Port Angeles Symphony’s Concert & Cuisine beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at C’est si Bon, 23 Cedar Park Drive, Port Angeles.

Tickets are $75 and include a dinner of filet mignon, salmon or stuffed Cornish game hen. Call 457-5579 for reservations.

The event celebrates the winners of the symphony’s Young Artist Competition.

State button show set for Sept. 16-17

The Peninsula Button Club will host the Washington State Button Show and Sale at the Holiday Inn Express, 1441 E. Washington St., on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17.

The theme for the show is “Take a Button Road Trip.” Activities include a showroom, workshops, judging of button trays, special speakers, raffle tickets, favor buttons and sales.
