District now has online volunteer registration

With a large number of volunteers helping at the Sequim School District — last year, the district had more than 900 registered volunteers in its schools — school officials have made a change to streamline the process for registering its helpers.

To volunteer in the Sequim School District, you first must complete the volunteer clearance process and background check. The process must be repeated each school year.

The beginning of the new school year is an excellent time to begin the application process so you can be ready to volunteer in the schools or chaperone a field trip, program coordinators say.

This year, the district is introducing an all-online system for volunteer clearance. Beginning Aug. 18, individuals interested in volunteering in Sequim Schools may begin an online volunteer application process for the 2016-2017 school year on the district’s website at www.sequim.k12.wa.us. The online application process requires an email address and provides step-by-step assistance. A current Washington driver’s license or state ID card is required in order to run a background check.

Allow for at least two weeks processing time before the date you wish to begin volunteering. After you have completed the online application and submitted your driver’s license, you will receive notification by email when clearance has been completed.

Visit the computer kiosk at your child’s school building or the district office during office hours or complete the application process from your home computer.
