Master Gardener talks thyme in the landscape, garden and kitchen

WSU Master Gardener Sally Tysver presents two upcoming programs on thyme at events sponsored by the Clallam County Master Gardeners.

She will share tips for the cultivation and culinary use of thyme at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.

She will repeat this presentation at noon Thursday, Aug. 25, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles, as a part of the Green Thumb Garden Tips Brown Bag educational series.

Tysver discusses different varieties of thyme, how to grow them and how they might be used in landscaping. Then she shifts to how the different varieties can be used in preparing food.

Tysver studied herbalism through the Australasian College of Herbal Studies, Lake Oseugo, Ore., and has been an assistant with care of herbs at the Silverbay Herb Farm in Silverdale while it was a working farm.

She has been a Master Gardener since 1991 and given presentations on the medicinal and culinary use of herbs. She manages the culinary herb garden at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden. She also is a member of the Master Gardeners’ Youth Enrichment Program and serves on the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County Board of Directors. She is a recipient of the lifetime achievement Golden Trowel Award.
