Fourth Friday Readings set

Fourth Friday Readings, sponsored by Writers on the Spit, will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at The Lodge’s media room, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim. Bring poems, short-short stories or memoir/novel snippets, rehearse in advance as readings are timed, and sign in to read. Guidelines available at Heidi@olypen.com.

A little romance at the VFW

KSQM is sponsoring a dance from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim. The dance’s theme is “Romantic Rendezvous.”

GardenMusic plays at Wheeler

The Olympic Music Festival announces the return of musicians from GardenMusic on Aug. 27-28 following the group’s residency last season. Performances take place in the 275-seat Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden in Port Townsend. GardenMusic’s unique programming breaks down musical barriers by combining classical masterworks with music from the jazz, bluegrass, Latin and folk world. Musicians from GardenMusic also will present an educational concert for children and their families at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 28 in the Wheeler Theater. The hour-long performance for children of all ages focuses on how teamwork and friendship in music can inspire the imagination. General admission tickets are $8. Ballet on the plaza planned

An Evening of Dance will be presented by Sequim Ballet at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, on the plaza of the Sequim Civic Center. Guests include The Olympic Cloggers and Cami Ortloff who is on vacation from her pre-professional training in New York City with Gelsey Kirkland. There also will be music by Ryan Andrews. The event is free and sponsored by the City of Sequim.

Deadline nears for fiber art exhibit entries

The City Arts Advisory Commission is seeking entries of fiber arts, in any media that uses fiber, for the next exhibit to be displayed in the lobby of the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 9.

The art pieces must be no larger than 9 square feet and not exceed 50 pounds per piece. The exhibit will be on display from Oct. 1-Dec. 31. All entries will be juried by the CAAC. An artist reception will take place on Oct. 7.
