Workout fundraiser slated for Rookard family

A fundraiser for the Rookard family of Sequim is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Albert Haller Playfields, just north of Carrie Blake Park.

Hosted by Anytime Fitness-Sequim, the event is a workout fundraiser with a $10 suggested donation.

Willy Rookard was severely injured celebrating his 25-year wedding anniversary in Mexico in June.

OMC auxiliary schedules fundraiser for Oct. 5

Olympic Medical Center Auxiliary hosts a new and used jewelry and scarves fundraiser from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Olympic Medical Center’s main campus, 939 Caroline St., and Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Both events also are at OMC’s Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

The deadline for donated items is Sept. 15.

Fundraiser on tap for area health care network

TheNorth Olympic Health Care Network host “Midnight in Paris,” an annual fundraiser for the group, set this year for 5:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Red Lion Hotel ballroom, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

Cost is $80 per person.

American Pickers seeking area collectors

The American Pickers, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, are returning to Washington this summer and are looking for leads throughout the region, specifically interesting people with interesting items and lots of them. The duo, owners of Antique Archeology in LeClaire, Iowa, and Nashville, Tenn., are immediately seeking people with large collections that may end up on their show, “American Pickers” on the History Channel. Thrift shop not open this weekend

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop will not be open for Labor Day weekend. Volunteers are critically needed to work in the shop. Call 683-7044 for more information.

Learn more about Medicare

Join the Jefferson County SHIBA volunteers (Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisors) for a free presentation about Medicare coverage in two upcoming presentations.

The first is from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Tri Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, Chimacum.

The second is 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim.

The event is sponsored by Senior Information and Assistance and the Office of the Insurance Commissioner.

‘Local Waters’ Course offered by WSU Extension

Washington State University Extension is offering a Watershed Stewards class from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 22-Oct. in Port Townsend with classroom lectures and field trips.

Applications are accepted through Sept. 16.

The cost is $160 and scholarships are available.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491.

Menus are subject to change.

Thursday, Sept. 1: Spring greens, cranberry salad, hot turkey sandwich, whipped potatoes, green peas, pumpkin dump

Friday, Sept. 2: Apple slaw, fish/chips, cantaloupe, garlic bread, lemon poppy seed cake w/strawberries

Tuesday, Sept. 6: Taco salad, fruit cobbler
