Sequim NFL Flag Football sets season

Registrations are being taken now through Sept. 10 for Sequim Flag Football.

The league, open to boys and girls of ages 6-12 (as of Sept. 6, 2016), sees games played at the Sequim High School varsity baseball field, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Cost is $65 with a $180 family cap (three or more players). Fee includes an NFL jersey. Players are asked to bring a mouth guard to practices and games.

Late registration runs through Sept. 24. Register at the field each Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday through Sept. 24.

The season sees games on Tuesdays (5 p.m.), Thursdays (5 p.m.) and Saturdays (3 p.m.), and runs through Oct. 29.

Blake gets ace No. 6

Dave Blake of Sequim sank his sixth lifetime hole-in-one on Aug. 28 at The Cedars at Dungeness.

Blake used a 9-iron to drive the 142-yard hole No. 17 at The Cedars.

Dave Allen, Randy Gange and Sid Krumpe, all of Sequim, witnessed the feat.

Sequim’s SkyRidge sets September scramble

SkyRidge Golf Course hosts a three-person scramble starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

Cost is $90 per player ($340 per team) with an extra honey pot for $20. Cost includes gross and net prizes, lunch following play, team KPs and team long putt contests.

Carts are available for $15 per seat.

Avalanche hoops tryouts set for Sept. 7

Avalanche Basketball, a select hoops squad for girls of the North Olympic Peninsula, is hosting tryouts for a team.

Girls entering seventh and eighth grade are eligible. Tryouts are 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Peninsula College gymnasium, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Smithson, Sweet qualify for North-South Cup

Garrett Smithson, PGA head golf professional at Sequim’s The Cedars at Dungeness, and Tyler Sweet, head golf pro at Sunland Golf & Country Club, both recently qualified for the North-South Cup competition, an event pitting the top 20 players (10 to each side) by scoring average from the Western Washington Professional Golf Association Chapter.

The event is set for Sept. 13-14 at Whitehorse Golf Club in Kingston.

Sunland golfers net club titles

A number of local golfers took home club championships at Sunland Golf & Country Club in August.

Bill Dickin earned the title of Super Senior Champion of the men and Cynthia Edel earned the same title for the women in the Super Senior Championship (age 70-plus). Net champions were Karl Kelley and Patricia Palmeri.

In the 2016 Sunland Championship, Judy Flanders won by four strokes for the Sunland Women’s Champion and Jay Tomlin earned the Sunland Men’s Championship. Net champions were Geri O’Claray and Jerry Ahern.

Sunland Lady Niners Championship was won by Nancy Harlan, with Kathy Tiedeman taking net division honors.

Conway takes title

Pat Conway shot a net 63 to win the Lady Niners at Cedars at Dungeness’ two-day club championship, held Aug. 11 and Aug. 25.

Overall, Conway shot rounds of 44 and 43 for the win.

In all, 11 golfers took to the course for the low net-format tourney.
