Fiddlers meet Saturday

The Washington Old-time Fiddlers, District 15, meets Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. A business meeting for members is at 10 a.m., jamming begins at 11:30 a.m. and on-stage performances begin at 1:30 p.m. See www.d15.wotfa.org for more information.

Music fest concludes season with jazz pianist

The Olympic Music Festival’s 2016 summer season concludes with an exclusive solo recital by jazz pianist Fred Hersch. Hersch will perform at 2 p.m. Sept. 10-11, at Fort Worden’s 275-seat Wheeler Theater.

Hersch has received eight Grammy nominations and is considered one of the most important composers and improvisers of this era. Hersch will be signing CDs following both performances.

‘Boys in the Boat’ up for talk

“The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown is the book up for discussion at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Print copies of “The Boys in the Boat” are available in various formats including regular print, large print and audiobook on CD; they can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org.

Garden club hosts speaker

The Sequim Prairie Garden Club is hosting Chad Kaiser from the New Dungeness Lighthouse Association at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at its clubhouse in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 W. Washington St., Sequim. It is open to the public and it’s free.

PT hosts crafts fair

The 45th Annual Crafts by the Dock Fair is set for Sept. 10-11 on Madison Street in downtown Port Townsend by City Hall and the City Civic Plaza, one block from the concurrent Wooden Boat Festival. Hours on Sept. 10 are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Juried artists from all over Washington and other Northwest states plus California, Colorado, Florida and Idaho will be selling their handmade artwork.

‘Miss Lillian’ stages at Sequim schoolhouse

Carol Swarbuck Dries brings “Miss Lillian Speaks,” a one-woman show detailing the life of President Jimmy Carter’s mother, to the Dungeness Schoolhouse for a 7:30 p.m. performance on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim.

The event is a fundraiser for Mike Chapman, who is running for Washington state representative.

Cost is $25 per person.

Port Angeles Library offers music program

Beginning Friday, Sept. 16, the North Olympic Library System resumes offering “Music for Baby & Me” story times at 11:15 a.m. at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. This program features songs, fingerplays and rhymes for babies up to 24 months-old and their parents or caregivers.

“Music for Baby & Me” story times are free and occur every Friday through Nov. 18, and from Jan. 6-May 12. There will be no programs held on April 28 or Nov. 11. After each session, parents and caregivers are welcome to linger, visit and swap information.
