Conservation district offers fall classes

Clallam Conservation District still has room for a few more registrations for the fall Natural Landscaping course.

Through three evening classes and three Saturday field trips, course participants receive step by step instruction on how to analyze their properties and develop landscape designs suited to each site’s unique ecological conditions.

Classes will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Oct. 11 at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.

The registration deadline is Sept. 22.

A $25 registration fee ($30 for couples) covers the cost of a binder of course materials, the WSU publication Grow Your Own Native Landscape and facilities rental.

The district also has scheduled its fall Landscaping with Native Plants Field Workshop for the morning of Saturday, Oct. 1. The workshop focuses on the identification of over 25 native trees and shrubs along about a two-mile walk on Dungeness Recreation Area trails.

In addition plant identification, tips will be offered on each plant’s cultural needs, aesthetic qualities, habitat benefits, as well as how to incorporate them into home landscapes.

The workshop runs from 9-noon and is free. However, due to space limitations, pre-registration is required.
