Duo plays at church

The Burchfield Brothers, consisting of Jon and Ben Burchfield, make music that inspires the soul. The Nashville-based duo will play at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way, Sequim. Classical guitar, midi-marimba, Irish whistles and recorders make these two artists sound like an entire ensemble. Their stylistic diversity includes Appalachian, classical, jazz, Renaissance and praise music.

Journal-making set at Port Angeles Library

Enjoy an afternoon of journal-making, hot tea and good company at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Local artist Jan Dove will lead the workshop and guide participants in creating their own personalized journals. There will be plenty of time for adding personal touches to the journals with provided collage materials and other supplies. The workshop is free and open to all ages.

Dance at the grange

Buck Ellard will be performing for your dancing and listening pleasure from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road. Cost is $10 per person; food will be provided.

Square dance lessons set in Gardiner

New square dance lessons have begun at the Gardiner Community Center every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. hosted by the Rhody O’s Square Dance Club. Oct. 4 is the cut-off date to join this new class. For more information, call 360-683-2409.

Go with the flow at ‘spontaneous’ event

The Third Monday Spontaneous Writing event will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The class, hosted by Ruth Marcus, is free for writers who want to get their creative juices flowing. All writers are welcome regardless of experience. Bring paper and pen — no electronic devices, please. Prompts are provided.

Outdoorsmen to read works on Sept. 23

On Sept. 23, Writers on the Spit will host the free Fourth Friday Readings at The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way in Sequim. Terry L. Moore and Howard Chadwick are the featured writers.

Both speakers are outdoorsmen with a wide range of experiences incorporated into their poetry and essays. An hour of 5-minute open mic readings will follow the speakers. Interested writers should come early to submit their names.

Community dance planned for Sept. 24

The Just for Fun Dance Class, taught by Steve and Ann Johnson, will sponsor its 12th Community Dance from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Vern Burton Gym, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, with the Olympic Express Big Band.

Admission is $5 per person for this all-ages dance. Water is supplied, bring snacks to share; this is a non-alcohol event.

Also, the Johnsons will teach beginning swing dance lessons for all ages starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, for four weeks at the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St. Lessons are $5 each.
