Clallam County election could see registered voter total surpass 50,000

With the 2016 General Election less than two months away, Clallam County Elections officials estimate the county’s active voter rolls could surpass an all-time high of 50,000.

Currently, 49,523 Clallam County residents are registered to vote, including about 693 military service members and U.S. citizens living abroad whose ballots will be sent by week’s end.

Ballots will be mailed to all registered Clallam County voters on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

“We are processing new voter registrations daily and expect an even greater influx as we approach the voter registration deadlines,” Clallam County Auditor Shoona Riggs said.

Those not registered to vote in this state have until Monday, Oct. 31, to register in person at the Auditor’s Office in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

(The deadline for registered Washington voters to transfer their voter registrations from other in-state counties or update their addresses by mail, phone or online was Oct. 10.)

Voter registration forms are available at all public libraries, city halls and school district offices in the county, and the Clallam County Courthouse. Regular courthouse business hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
