Milestone — Lions donate seed money for Shiso City trip

Duane and Kimberly Needoba, chaperones for the October student exchange trip to Japan, accept a $1,500 contribution from the Sequim Valley Lions Club.

The Sequim Lions Club donated $1,500 as seed money to help the 10 student ambassadors selected by the Sequim-Shiso Sister City Association approach other service organizations in Sequim in an effort to raise the $2,500 each ninth-grade student needs to participate in the 10-day trip. During this trip, the students will live with Japanese families and visit cultural and historic sites.

A spokesman for the Lions Club said that all contributions to this Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce program are tax deductible and members hope the community-at-large will join them in funding this student exchange program because it is an investment in the future of the United States.

Your donations will help assure that all of of Sequim’s exchange students can go on this trip to Japan. If you would like further information or you would like to contribute money, contact Annette Hanson, exchange coordinator, at 360-670-6774 or Melanie Sands, financial administrator for the chamber, at 683-6197.
