Free holiday meal at Hardy’s Market

Hardy’s Market, 10200 Old Olympic Highway, invites the community to a complimentary holiday meal starting at 11 a.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, while supplies last. The dine-in or take-out meal is one per person, no early birds. Call 360-582-0240.

Sock/toy/food drive, free dinner at Kettle’s

Kettle’s 76, 194 W. Washington St., in partnership with Sun Taxi & Delivery, is hosting a socks, toys and food drive during the holiday season. Get deals on coffee or fountain drinks for donating a can of food or a pair of socks, or a deal on car washes for donations of three cans or three socks. The drive benefits Serenity House of Clallam County, Toys for Tots and the Sequim Food Bank.

The business also hosts a free Christmas dinner set for noon-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25. Call 509-855-6567.

Land Trust schedules open house event

The North Olympic Land Trust hosts a Holiday Open House from 1-4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Land Trust office, 602 E. Front St., Port Angeles. Scouts can help with tree disposal

Sequim Boy Scout Troop 1498 is providing post Christmas pick-up service for recycling trees in the Sequim and Port Angeles region for a suggested donation of $15. Call Sue at 360-775-8074 to schedule this service for Saturday, Jan. 6.

No ‘Coffee with Mayor’ in December

There will be no City of Sequim Coffee with the Mayor program in December because of holiday schedules. The Coffee with the Mayor program will resume in January. Contact Dennis Smith at dsmith@sequimwa.gov with questions.

National Park Service sets free days for 2018

The National Park Service announced last week that the public is invited to experience all national parks, including Olympic National Park, without entrance fees, on four days in 2018.

They include: Jan. 15 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day); April 21 (the first day of National Park Week); Sept. 22 (National Public Lands Day) and Nov. 11 (Veterans Day).

Hurricane Ridge Road is scheduled to be open for the holiday on Monday, Jan. 15, in addition to its normally scheduled days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Weather permitting, the road is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. and close to uphill traffic at 4 p.m.

The entrance fee for Olympic National Park is $25 per vehicle.

The entrance fee waiver does not cover camping or special tours such as guided snowshoe walks.

County fair officials pick 2018 theme

The Clallam County Fair announced last week the 2018 fair theme, “Paws On Parade,” submitted by Dawn Neathery of Port Angeles.

Neathery, who works at the bakery at the Bayview Safeway Store in Port Angeles and is an avid fair-goer, said she got her idea from watching her kids and animals walking towards their barn one day during the fair.

The 2018 county fair is Aug. 16-19.

Weed control plan available online

The Clallam County Noxious Weed Control Board’s annual report of the county’s weed management plan is now available online. On Dec. 4, the Noxious Weed Control Board presented the county Board of Commissioners with a briefing of the inaugural year of the Road Department’s Integrated Weed Management Plan and a draft version of the 2017 Annual Report.

The full report with detailed information regarding the weed control work accomplished in 2017 is now available online at www.clallam.net/weed and the Clallam Roads Department webpage (www.clallam.net/roads).

The 2018 work plan is under development and will be available online as well in 2018.

County officials say the road department’s weed management plan was created to help the county efficiently comply with its noxious weed control obligations and reduce existing weed populations and prevent the establishment of new ones across the county.

Newcomers club set to meet on Jan. 2

The community is invited to the next meeting of the Newcomers’ Club, starting at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 Del Guzzi Drive, Port Angeles. The guest speaker is Andra Smith, Executive Director of the Sequim Food Bank, who will talk about the food bank’s mission, vision and values.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., on Tuesdays-Fridays.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 360-683-8491.
