City volunteer concierge positions available

The City of Sequim is seeking volunteers to serve as concierge in the Sequim Civic Center. Volunteers will greet visitors to the facility and help direct them to the appropriate department. Concierge also assists in providing tourism-related information about the city and surrounding Dungeness Valley area to visitors. Roadwork halted at Lake Crescent

Work on the Lake Crescent/US Highway 101 project is officially shutdown for the winter, Olympic National Park officials said last week.

Travelers around Lake Crescent will not encounter any road work, traffic lights or delays associated with the project until it resumes in mid-March. The rock scaling and bolting work is now complete.

Both lanes in the rock wall area were paved to repair road damage and that section is restored to two lanes.

There are no traffic signals in place, however, the lanes in that section around milepost 229 will be narrower than usual until further road work is completed. A reduced speed limit is in effect in that area and road signs warn drivers of the narrow lanes.

Scouts offer tree disposal service

Sequim Boy Scout Troop 1498 is providing post Christmas pick-up service for recycling trees in the Sequim and Port Angeles region for a suggested donation of $15. Call Sue at 360-775-8074 to schedule this service for Saturday, Jan. 6.

Stay safe, sober at DVLC

Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., is hosting a “Safe-Sane-Sober Watchnight” event starting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve. Enjoy light snacks, games, conversation and packaging of care items for people dealing with homelessness. All are invited.

Sequim Citizen of the Year nominees sought

The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its annual Citizen of the Year award.

The award is to honor citizens whose volunteer service falls above, beyond and generally outside his/her regular occupation. Two people working jointly in a community project or projects may be nominated to receive a joint award;however, groups of more than two will not be considered.

A minimum of two written endorsements (other than from a relative) must be received for the nomination to be considered.

The nomination deadline is Jan. 31. A group of past Citizen of the Year winners helps judge nominees each year.

Support groups offered for depression, anxiety

Diane Porter facilitates depression and anxiety support group meetings from 3:30-5 p.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. in Sequim.
