Saturday matinees return to Sequim Library with Family Flicks series

Get ready to turn down the lights, warm up some popcorn, kick back and enjoy a movie … at your local library.

The Family Flicks movie series begins its 2018 offerings with “The Lego Batman Movie” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Offered at 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month through April, Family Flicks provides fun family entertainment, popcorn and movie trivia for no charge.

Released in 2017, “The Lego Batman Movie” is a PG-rated film is a celebration of everything Batman. The movie makes numerous references to previous Batman movies, cartoons and comics. A “cooler-than-ever” Bruce Wayne who must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City while discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan who wishes to become his sidekick.

On Feb. 3, “Cars 3” hits the screen. This G-rated film was produced in 2017 by Walt Disney Pictures’ Pixar. Blindsided by a generation of blazing-fast cars, Lighting McQueen finds himself pushed out of the sport that he loves. Hoping to regain a competitive edge, he turns to Cruz Ramirez, an eager young technician who has her own plans for winning as well as to the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet for inspiration.

The series continues on March 3 with PG-rated “Despicable Me 3.” After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down the latest bad guy to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother, a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps, one former super-villain will rediscover just how good it feels to be bad.

The series wraps up on April 7 with “Sing.” The cheerful, entertaining film with warm-hearted story-line was released in 2016 by Illumination Entertainment. Anthropomorphic animal characters includes a hustling theater impresario koala, whose attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as finalists find that their lives will never be the same.
